Route 1

I drove down Government Street to and made several observations. There are many transitions along the way. I started at the corner of Government and Lobdell and headed towards the river. The beginning of my route was neighborhoods and houses. Then it changed into restaurants. As I kept driving the scenery changed to an economically depressed area with abandoned buildings. As I drove closer to the interstate, I came across several law firms. Once I crossed under the Interstate, Government Street appeared very different and more lively. There was nicer landscaping and more action than on the other side. That side was shorter and contained mostly government buildings, more law offices, the centroplex, and finally the street ended at River Road in front of the USS KIDD. I enjoyed the ride and dynamic scenery.

Government street has a variety of changes but the development is very similar throughout these changes. The changes seem to focus primarily on the conditions of these developments. Are there patterns to how these conditions evolve, can we find distinct markers of change or are the changes more of a gradient through the transect?

i love government street for all its imagery, but hate it in the afternoon for its traffic. there is definitely a transition that happens along the route–it’s especially engaging near baton rouge high and the garden district, and again downtown in the areas around the law offices and government buildings. and the old signs and signage on buildings are the most colorful ones in town.

I was just looking at Gov’t on google earth and noticed that the area that has the nicer residential feel is in that ridge with the garden district. The different zones become really defined from that view.
